An Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) is an advanced practice nurse specializing in preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment for adults and older adults in primary care settings.
NPs are registered nurses first, trained in a holistic, patient-centered model, while PAs follow a medical model, working under physician supervision in various specialties.
AGPCNPs provide long-term, outpatient primary care, while AGACNPs (Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners) specialize in hospital-based, critical care settings like ICUs and emergency departments.
AGPCNPs provide primary care for adults and older adults, while Family Practice NPs care for all age groups, including children. AGPCNPs can expand into family practice by obtaining a post-master’s certificate in pediatric care.
